is an association working all over the Czech Republic since 1990. It was originally founded as an association for helping foster families. Nowadays we are trying to help neglected, abused and orphan children who miss the love of their parents. The Fund has 21 branches at the moment working within the whole country and dealing with approximately 2000 cases per year. Most of money for our activities is raised from fellow citizens, businessmen and companies, but we also receive grants from the government.

During the 15 years of FOD existence we have found 524 homes for those children where the state authorities were not able to find a new family themselves. We mediate adoption as well as foster care. In addition we established a new project called Klokánek, which means a little kangaroo in English and is similar to the conception of foster care in the U.K and USA |

is a new project of FOD. Its purpose is to provide warm family environment instead of institutional children homes for children who don´t have a family or who cannot stay in their family.
Either married couple or an “aunt” or two “aunts alternating in period of one week” are taking care of children the same way as parents do. They stay with children all night and day cooking, cleaning, playing…
Kangaroo families can stay either in the flats in the house established by FOD or in the houses owned by "aunt"
Maximum number of children in a kangaroo family is four or three, if there are babies in that family.
Klokánek is suitable for children of any age and thanks to this all brothers and sisters can stay together in one kangaroo family. They don´t have to be separated as in the institutional children home (separation in accordance with the age of children).
Children are accepted to Klokánek either upon an agreement with the parents, a judicial decision or upon a request of a child itself. Children stay only for a necessary time in Klokánek – until they can go back home or until a new family (foster or adoptive) is found for them. To explain: Foster care in the Czech Republic is different from the one in USA. In Czech it is more similar to adoption and it is not used for a temporary stay of a child.
Kangaroo parents and aunts have to pass the psychological tests and examinations to make sure they are the right people to take care of children.
The best of Kangaroos is the fact, that children don´t have to go to an institution but stay in a family with people who give them love and everything they need. It may be for the first time in their lives to stay with someone who loves them, listens to them and cares for them.
At the moment there are 7 kangaroo houses with flats and 6 kangaroo families throughout the whole Czech Republic.
